   Fraser Island lies just to the south of the Great Barrier Reef and has been formed over hundreds of thousands of years as waves 
   and  ocean currents carried sand from the far south-east of Australia. The island was formed as the sand was deposited over a low
   hilly terrain formed millions of years ago by volcanic activity. The result is a series of overlapping sand dune systems dating back at
   least 700 000 years. The shifting sands of Fraser Island continually conceal and reveal a unique geological history and are the
   longest and most complete age sequence of coastal dune systems in the world. From seemingly endless white sand beaches to
